ELEC3 is really a course on Emissions. Here we do not discuss anything other than emissions – no Ohms Law, etc. The method used for teaching emissions is one of a “fly through” of an engine where we start at the air cleaner and work our way through the system until exiting the exhaust. By using this method we increase complexity as we go and build up knowledge on how each upstream system can have an effect downstream. The first day covers up to the exhaust side of the turbo – and this leaves day 2 to cover Regen and SCR related information. Because of the subtleties of these two systems, Day 2 is densely packed with rapid diagnostic techniques and step-by-step descriptions of tests. We practice these on Day 3. Tools necessary to make life easier are also covered – such as DEF refractometer.
