**Adam’s note: This is possibly the most important class we teach. I would highly recommend all techs and all supervisors attend one of these classes at least once every two years**
HBWE – “hubs, brakes, wheel ends” - is one of the most important courses we teach. Because of the close relationship of the hub itself (i.e. wheel bearing settings) during brake changes – Brakes training also covers Hubs as a necessity.
This course has been modified for 2024 to be a full-week course. Also, where possible, class and shop time are split back and forth each day until an all-shop day (or days, depending on progress and availability).
Brakes are taught from a perspective of disassembling, measuring, and replacing as a tech would do to a real truck.
Air drum as well as increasingly prolific air disc brakes are taught and online resources are used to help techs gain further knowledge on their own time. The online resources are all free and manufacturer supplied (Webb, Bendix, Meritor, etc).
Special attention is paid to parts of braking systems that most shops/techs fail to pay attention to such as s-cam wear and various bushings. For air disc this includes major changes to when to change pads.
** Note**
During some in-shop sessions, we find worn or damaged equipment that can preclude reassembly during class time. This is handled on a per- class basis. (Examples would be s-cam tubes that are beyond spec, axles that are damaged, air disc calipers that are broken, etc)
